Dementia/Alzheimer Program

Dementia is not a disease - it is a medical term used to describe decreases in mental abilities that are severe enough to interfere with activities of daily living.  Dementia has many causes, the most common being Alzheimer's disease.  Our Dementia/Alzheimer Program takes into consideration that there are several stages.

Our Cognitive Awareness Program which is provided by our Therapeutic Activities Department offers a variety of programs for residents.  It provides an opportunity for the 'group' to leave their unit and participate in activities designed specifically for them.  It also provides an opportunity to have a dining experience off the unit in a more home-like environment. 

Residents are evaluated for appropriateness in participating in this program.  Participation in the program is limited to twenty residents.
